Editing a text means checking a translation for linguistic, sector-specific/thematic or even culture-specific consistency depending on the order requirements. Editing therefore guarantees an extremely reliable target text. DIN EN 15038:2006 translation projects must be edited in accordance with the standard.

Language Editing

The proof-reader may not be the translator of the text in question and must also have the necessary source and target language competency. The proof-reader must examine whether the translation fulfils its purpose. Within the scope of this examination, a comparison of source and target text must be conducted according to the relevant project requirements in order to check the consistency of the terminology and whether register and style are appropriate.

Sector-specific Editing

The specialised editor has to conduct a monolingual examination of the text to evaluate the translation's suitability for its purpose and to propose possible corrections.Normally, the purpose of the sector-specific examination is to evaluate the translation in terms of register and sector-specific conventions.

Correction of Galley Proofs

If the order requirements demand galley proof correction, the galley proof must be corrected accordingly before publication/printing.
